Greenhouse effect
The enhanced greenhouse effect
The Natural greenhouse effect
The natural greenhouse effect is a natural process that warms the Earth's surface. When energy from the sun reaches the atmosphere, some is reflected back into space and the rest is absorbed and re-radiated by greenhouse gases. This process allows life on Earth to live, if it didn't exist Earth would be covered in ice.
Natural greenhouse gases are:
-
Water
-
Carbon dioxide
-
Nitrous oxide
-
Sulfur oxide
-
Ozone
-
Methane
The enhanced greenhouse effect is a problem caused by human activities. The main activities that cause the enhanced effect are agriculture, land clearing and the main one, burning fossil fuels. These activities are increasing the concentration of greenhouse gases. The Earth is getting warmer and warmer because of this which isn't a good sign. If the temperature keeps increasing it is said that the Earth will basically 'boil'.
Enhanced greenhouse gases are the same as natural gases except Cloro fluoro carbons (CFC's) and Hydro fluoro carbons (HFC's) are included. These are man made gases.
