Australia's strategies to reduce emissions
Carbon tax
The Carbon tax is one of the strategies the Australian government inforced to reduce carbon emissions. The carbon tax is a tax that everyone pays for. The idea is that you pay for every tonne of carbon you release into the atmosphere. Although many people have started to turn off lights and some people even install solar panels, so they don't have to pay much carbon tax, it hasn't been as successful as planned. Tony Abbot plans on eliminating the carbon tax this year because it has a huge effect on the economy and just isn't 'working',it hasn't reduced very much emissions.
Direct Action Plan
The Direct Action Plan is a new plan that is yet to be comenced. It is created by the Australian government. They said that this project will take action in reducing carbon emissions in Australia, not overseas. They plan on doing this by establishing an emissions reduction fund. This fund will allocate money to projects that are designed to reduce carbon emissions. All of the money will be spent on Australian green projects, not foreign credits. They also plan on enhancing Australia's water supply, improving the environmental approval process and supporting communities.
