Natural gas is used to generate electricity and to cook and heat in homes.

The Mortlake powerplant is used for peakload. This means that it powers homes at the time most electricity is used. The plant makes about 550MW a day.

Natural gas supplies around 12% of Australia's energy. This is extremely low compared to gas (76%).

Wind power is often used to generate electricity.

The Macarthur wind farm makes 440MW a day, at its best.

Wind power supplies 3% of Australia's energy and is close behind hydropower (7%).
