Natural gas
  • Natural gas is used to generate electricity and to cook and heat in homes. 

  • The Mortlake powerplant is used for peakload. This means that it powers homes at the time most electricity is used. The plant makes about 550MW a day.

  • Natural gas supplies around 12% of Australia's energy. This is extremely low compared to gas (76%). 

  • Wind power is often used to generate electricity. 

  • The Macarthur wind farm makes 440MW a day, at its best. 

  • Wind power supplies 3% of Australia's energy and is close behind hydropower (7%).
